10 Biblical Things that Couples Must Doing to Avoid Fighting in Marriage

10 Biblical Things that Couples Must Doing to Avoid Fighting in Marriage

1.        Practicing Active Listening:
Take the time to truly listen to your spouse's thoughts and feelings without interrupting or becoming defensive. "Know this, my beloved brothers: let every person be quick to hear, slow to speak, slow to anger." (James 1:19)

2.        Speaking Kindly and Respectfully: Use words that build each other up and show respect. "Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person." (Colossians 4:6)

3.        Choosing Your Battles Wisely: Not every disagreement requires a full-blown argument. Learn to discern between minor issues that can be let go and those that need deeper discussion. "Starting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out." (Proverbs 17:14)

4.        Practicing Forgiveness: Be quick to forgive one another and let go of past hurts. "Bear with each other and forgive one another if any of you has a grievance against someone. Forgive as the Lord forgave you." (Colossians 3:13)

5.        Praying Together: Seek God's guidance and wisdom through prayer as a couple. "Again I say to you, if two of you agree on earth about anything they ask, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven." (Matthew 18:19)

6.        Serving Each Other: Put each other's needs before your own and serve with a selfless heart. "For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many." (Mark 10:45)

7.        Choosing Unity Over Winning: Avoid a mindset of competition and prioritize unity in your marriage. "Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace." (Ephesians 4:3)

8.        Taking Time Apart When Needed: Sometimes, a cooling-off period can be beneficial during heated discussions. "It is to one’s honor to avoid strife, but every fool is quick to quarrel." (Proverbs 20:3)

9.        Expressing Gratitude: Show appreciation for each other's efforts and express gratitude daily. "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus." (1 Thessalonians 5:18)

10.      Keeping Christ at the Center: Make God the foundation of your marriage, seeking His guidance and wisdom in all things. "Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain." (Psalm 127:1)

By implementing these biblical principles into your marriage, you can create a loving and harmonious relationship, reducing the likelihood of unnecessary conflict and fostering a deeper connection with your spouse.
